Chinese New Year – So Close Yet So Far

I haven’t been to NYC’s Chinatown for the Chinese New Year’s celebration in years. The last time I went it was at midnight and I thought I was living the “Band of Brothers” (before it was ever made). The fireworks, the M-80s, the explosions were constant and a bit frightening. I left in one piece but it took days for my hearing to return.

This year I wanted to go back. Not for the fireworks however, but for the parades. (Regarding the fireworks – I don’t know if they do that any more. I think the Mayor outlawed their use, but don’t quote on that.) It’s the Year of the Rabbit and there would be parades and dragons and food and……not me. While Feb 3rd was the New Year, on Saturday Feb 5th would have been the celebrations. And, once again, the winter got in my way. It wasn’t snowing, but raining. While that’s a plus, I have to wait another year to see those dragons.
