It amazes me that these fiery lanterns can be ignited and sent
off into the sky only to fall back onto some unsuspecting victim.
I guess it’s nice to know that in our highly litigious society
we can still do some crazy things!

Before George Lucas changed the American Film landscape with Star Wars, he made American Graffiti. A story set in the 1950’s starring an ensemble cast that included Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss and Harrison Ford (aka Hans Solo). The action takes place in California during one night and Mel’s Drive-In is featured prominently in the narrative. The photograph above was taken in San Francisco.
By the way, if you haven’t seen American Graffiti I highly recommend the movie.

Last week I posted on my other blog taking a portrait photo of my daughter in the Badlands National Park while we waited for the sky to darken and the Milky Way Galaxy to appear so we could take photos. (The post I am referencing – Portrait in the Badlands.)
The image above is one of the Milky Way Galaxy photos I made. Let me add, it’s not easy when the only practice I get taking astronomical photos is once a year “IF” I make a trip out west. Really dark skies for this type of photography isn’t easy to come by in New Jersey. I have photographed the moon and a comet, but those images didn’t present the challenge the photograph above presented.

Flew the redeye last night back last night.
This was the only plane available.
I had to sit in the cockpit with the pilot.
He kept telling me he was worried about the propellers.
He said that some airlines were putting these
old planes back into service.
Glad I made it safely home.
